Even the most positive and enthusiastic person will have ‘low days’.
Sometimes you wake up feeling flat or you lack motivation, for no apparent reason.
Sometimes things happen around you and to you and life gets on top of you.
Sometimes those negative voices in your head take control.
It is impossible to feel positive and happy all the time, but the secret to feeling good about yourself, and your life, is knowing how to return to a more positive mindset – whatever life throws your way.
Use these 7 mind hacks to make sure you are being the best you that you can be.
Choose one or more of the following techniques and use them to feel better quickly and build a long lasting positive mental attitude.
1. Know what you can change.
Trying to change things that you have no control over is the fastest way to feel negative about yourself. Put your energy into the things you can change and make sure you get whatever support and use all the resources you need to make the change happen.
2. Have a flexible mindset
Research shows that having a flexible or growth) mindset is one of the most important factors for success in any area of your life.
Having a flexible mindset means that you do not need to know what the outcome is going to be. You have the confidence to be open to new ideas, be able to experiment to see what might happen and not be constrained by your old fixed beliefs.
3. Take Small Steps
Staying positive is much easier when you take small steps towards whatever it is you want to achieve.
We all over complicate things from time to time.
You think about all the things we think that you ‘should’ be doing for yourself, your family or business. Then become overwhelmed and end up feeling paralysed.
Often the best thing to do is to get back to basics and focus on a few (no more than 5) simple intentions or goals.
4. Positive Visualisation
Stop thinking about all the things that might go wrong and imagine something you are going to do working out positively.
Lots of scientific studies show that positive visualisation changes the neural pathways in your brain that then create permanent changes in your thinking patterns.
5. Change Your Language
Think about the language you use. In particular avoid ‘should’, ‘must’, ‘have’, ‘ought’, ‘got’ or ‘need’ to.
These words are really unhelpful to keep you feeling positive. They are other people’s ideas that are inside you, but don’t belong to you.
Use ‘could’ or ‘want’ instead.
Although it seems pedantic, these words have a much more positive energy attached to them. They give you choices and build motivation.
6. Feelings of Accomplishment
Actively focus on the positives in your life. How often do notice the negatives?
Do you get to the end of the day and remember all the things you haven’t done and the things that didn’t go well?
Instead start to list everything that has been positive. What went well, what did you achieve? What nice things happened? What kind things did other people do?
Find up to 50 things to feel positive about every day. Write at lease 5- 10 at the end of each day on a Ta Dah! list.
As you change your focus, the way you think and feel will easily shift to positive.
7. Be Kind to Yourself
Treat yourself kindly. Do nice things for yourself. Listen to yourself and remember that you are no more, or less, important than anyone else.
